Dorchester Pottery Works is established.

1895

Founded by George Henderson, it is located at 101 – 105 Victory Road. The factory initially produces agricultural pottery and industrial stoneware. In 1914, Henderson designs and builds a 28-foot-in-diameter beehive kiln, and the company becomes best known for its hand-decorated cobalt blue on grayish white dinnerware which is introduced in 1940. The company is operated by the Henderson family until it closes in 1979. The complex reopens as an art gallery in 2003.
